LG launches its latest Windows Mobile “LG GM730,” an easy smartphone unique for its user-friendly functions with active marketing plans to penetrate smartphone market

 

LG Electronics (Thailand) Co., Ltd., a design leader and technology innovator in mobile communications, announces its active plan for the smartphone market for the first time in Thailand. Initially, it will launch “LG GM730,” an easy smartphone under the concept of “JOY…NOW IN A SMARTPHONE.” LG GM730 is unique for its easy-to-access functions and responds to the demand of smartphones worldwide, including Thailand. The company plans to launch 50 more models worldwide. Following its cooperation with Microsoft to research and develop mobile phones using Windows Mobile operating system, the company is confident that it will reach its target groups in all markets and move up to be one of the top three leaders in Thai market.

 

Mr. Hyun Woo (Howard) Lee, Managing Director of LG Electronics (Thailand) Co., Ltd., reveals its strategies for smartphone market. According to the studies of customer insight during the past 2-3 years, we’ve found that the consumers do not differentiate smartphones using operating systems and premium touch phones. Therefore, there are a wider variety of consumers needing smartphones. They are not limited to only businessmen and executives. This results in the continuous sales growth of smartphones and touch phones worldwide. In 2008, the growth rate is 200% of that in 2007. As for Thailand, the smartphone market tends to grow like other markets worldwide. This can be clearly seen from the total market of this segment of 5% out of the overall mobile phone market in 2008, and it is expected to grow to 30% in 2009. Therefore, this year is important for LG to market its smart phones, both in the world and Thailand, in earnest. LG Electronics cooperates with Microsoft to develop smartphones to respond to the consumers’ demand in all lifestyles. It plans to expand its mobile phone product line using Windows Mobile operating system by launching over 50 models to the world markets.

 

As for Thai market, the company has planned Windows Mobile product road maps, starting from marketing in the mass target group and then expanding to professional users. LG GM730 is targeted at those needing touch phones with complete multimedia and smartphone functions, such as e-mails, computer links etc. However, they feel that smartphones are difficult to use and not suitable for themselves. Therefore, the company’s concept for LG GM730 is “Easy Smartphone.” It is unique for its easy access to all functions.

 

LG GM730 is the first model of smartphone which LG Electronics and Microsoft co-develop to be the most functional and easiest to use smartphone ever created. All of its functions are easy to access with LG’s patented S Class User Interface technology perfectly integrating with the latest version of Windows Mobile operating system. Therefore, LG GM730 is a smartphone capable of responding to all lifestyles with complete functions both business and multimedia, such as receiving and sending e-mails from Outlook Express program, ‘Easy Cut and Paste’ allows users to copy content  from the Internet

and paste it into documents or send it via email. Networking on the Map Service enabling users to check what their friends are doing and contact them through GPS and Voice Navigator Program – LG GM730 is the first full touch Windows Mobile using this program in full landscape, a wide variety of widgets to help accessing to the Internet faster, advanced multimedia such as

a 5 mega pixel digital camera, this is the best of its kind in the market at present etc. In addition, LG Electronics opens LG Application Stores to collect all applications for user to download and update so that they can personalize their smartphones easily. LG GM730 incorporates LG’s signature style with a slim, seamless and smooth, stylish rounded edges. At just 11.9 mm and highlight by an elegant chrome band, LG GM730 has different technology and design from any other smartphones. Moreover, it can respond to all lifestyles of consumers, resulting in its coverage of wider target groups ranging from students to businessmen, at the price of only Bt13,900.

 

The company will spend a marketing budget of Bt30 million for its smart phones during this year. Apart from the launch of new smartphones during the second half of this year, the company will adjust the marketing activity to have more variety for maximum efficiency in marketing its smartphones. It will give importance to creating experience through LG Mobile Shop and LG’s distributors. To expand its customers’ base to reach smartphones’ target groups as far as possible, the company has increased its distribution channels in the IT products stores. It will establish Experience Zone and organize road shows at major area throughout Bangkok to encourage and attract customers to try its products while creating direct experience for those customers making a buying decision in the future.  In addition, more on-line media are used in advertising. With these marketing plans of smartphones and the new products to be launched regularly during the second half of this year, the company is confident that it will have sold 15,000 smartphones or 15% of the overall market of smartphones in Thailand by the end of this year.
